Last House Standing is a social gaming application that provides the ultimate design and disaster challenge. Players have three minutes and $100,000 to build a house that strikes a perfect balance between stylish and indestructible. When it’s finished, the game will unleash Mother Nature’s wrath. Whatever is left will be judged on flair and survivability. Challenge random opponents and friends to see who will have the Last House Standing. The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) developed Last House Standing along with the support of its many talented partners and volunteers.
Last House Standing was created for players 16 and up, but it can be played by individuals of all ages and gaming experience levels.
The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes developed Last House Standing to reach the next generation of homebuilders, homeowners, and renters. FLASH conducted BETA testing and preview opportunities for the app, confirming it is a game for players of all ages and gaming experience levels. In FEMA’s Preparedness in America, a research report on public preparedness and perceptions of disaster safety measures, nearly half of the population has not identified a need for preparedness. The report goes on to recognize a lack of knowledge regarding ‘where to begin’ as one of the most common barriers to disaster safety. By making preparedness fun and accessible, Last House Standing can breakdown those obstacles.
Last House Standing is available for free on both iPhone and iPad here, and available for Android devices here. Last House Standing requires iOS 7.0 or later, and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. While the app is optimized for iPad 4 and later, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, it will operate on older models too.
Users may log in with an email address or Facebook account and move through a series of instruction screens, including one to create a game. Players have three minutes and $100,000 to build a house that strikes a balance between stylish and disaster resilient. There are three modes of play in the game: practice, challenge a friend, or find a random opponent. Practice rounds do not affect a player’s overall rank on the Master Builder Board, but challenges against known and random opponents do.
First, start by picking the location of your dream house, just remember that whatever region chosen to build in comes with its own potential for weather havoc. Next, from walls to windows, and landscape to man-cave, pick the features that will make your house not just a home, but a sweet fortress. Finally, when done building, push the ‘finished’ button to see if your house measures up. Track successes and dominate the Master Builder Board with your best scores. When complete, the game will unleash Mother Nature’s wrath. Whatever is left will be judged on flair and survivability. The winner is determined based on survivability from three out of five potential weather perils.
To exit a game, select the pause button in the top right hand of the screen during game play. This will lead you to a screen to where you can choose to either exit or resume the game.
Last House Standing was created as an interactive and competitive social gaming app, and ranks players based on the numbers of wins and losses accumulated. There are three modes of play in the game: practice, create a new game with a friend, and random challenge. Practice rounds do not affect a player’s overall rank on the Master Builder Board, but challenges against known and random opponents do.
