The Myths of Masking and Duct Tape

MYTH: Many people still believe they can use masking tape to protect their windows when a tornado is on its way.

FACT: A dangerous projectile will not even slow down as it passes through masking tape or any other tape. Consider the effectiveness of duct tape against a mailbox that has been ripped from the ground by high winds crashing into the window.

MYTH: Windows should be opened before a tornado approaches to equalize pressure and minimize damage.

FACT: Opening windows allows damaging winds to enter the structure. Leave the windows closed; instead, immediately go to a safe place.
